by Sergi Mestres – RUTTUM – Max Simo

Sergi Mestres started painting in the 2000 and he defines himself as a self-taught painter.

Very influenced by American Pop Art and Street Art, he started working with acrylics, sprays, markers and charcoals to develop his artworks. Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat have been key inspirations for his stylistic development.

His artwork is based on all that is perceived visually in the streets. One of his objectives is to represent urban dynamism, combined with bright colours that transmit joy. Barcelona has also been a source of inspiration and the basis of his work.

Everything that connects with cinema, music, sports and news is a reference for his artistic expression and motivates his work as a pure artist. Shapes and colors captivate his background and makes him move towards urban worlds, through collage or decollage techniques.

By transforming different realities into small works, he believes this is the way the new street / pop art works. He affirms: “I love painting and creating every day.”

Spanish street artist known as SIMO was born in Barcelona in the 80’s and started painting walls and outdoor spaces when he was 12 years old.

Simo defines himself as a Subway writer of streets. He’s, perhaps, the best and most well-know subway European artist based in Barcelona.

After more than 20 years of graffiti activity, his work is searched by collectors around the world. For the first time his art is available to the large public over Europe and just a limited number of commercial works will be available.
