Catwoman, who debuted as “the Cat” in Batman in 1940, is one of the Dark Knight’s oldest foes. Her character was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, appearing for the first time in American comics, and published by DC Comics in association with the superhero Batman. Now, Martín Rodríguez portrays again this young woman for his delight and that of her countless fans. By using the technique of oil on canvas, the artist depicts the character of Catwoman lying in a stealthy position with her featured sensual gaze. This supervillainess, Batman’s adversary, appears now dressed in her trademark skintight black outfit, fishnet stockings, and boots. Each detail, including the skin texture, has been handled with precision, using a silent stroke. As a result, Martin Rodriguez transforms a cartoon character, Catwoman, into a living being in this extraordinary artwork. —

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Martin Rodriguez

Martin Rodriguez Rio was influenced by his older brother’s interest in comic books and began drawing from a young age. At 12, he discovered Frank Frazetta’s works and became dedicated to drawing. Despite losing confidence in his talent during secondary school, he sold his first painting at 19, a reproduction of a Frazetta piece. He went on to study graphic design and worked in advertising illustration and design. In 2008, he fully committed to painting and gained international recognition as a horse painter. He also illustrated fantasy characters in Spain and formed a close friendship with sci-fi artist Juan Gimenez.
