This giclée is a reproduction of Frank Frazetta’s iconic creation, the Death Dealer, originally painted in 1973.

The Death Dealer artwork gained prominence as the cover art for ‘Flashing Swords 2’ and was also featured on the debut album artwork of the band Molly Hatchet. The painting depicts a sinister warrior on horseback, clad in armor with a horned helmet, wielding an axe and a blood-stained shield.

Frank Frazetta, known for illustrating characters like Conan The Barbarian and Tarzan, decided to create his own character with Death Dealer, representing a symbol of death. Despite lacking a specific narrative, Death Dealer quickly became globally recognized and beloved.

This limited edition giclée has been reproduced from the original artwork provided by Frazetta’s descendants.

"When I painted Death Dealer and Silver Warrior back to back, I had been sitting on my laurels, just going through the motions. Then there was a rumor that really disturbed me. People were saying I was washed up and that I hadn’t produced anything in years. That was the loyalty I got? It made me decide to crush them and show them the old spirit. I sat down and bam, Death Dealer and Silver Warrior were born. They were both better than anything I had ever created before. It’s a crazy game I like to play” - Frank Frazetta

Frazetta’s artwork continued to inspire various mediums, including Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta’s collaborative film “Fire and Ice,” where Death Dealer influenced the character “Dark Wolf.” Frazetta hoped for animations or live-action adaptations of Death Dealer, but unfortunately, he did not witness this in his lifetime.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Frank Frazetta

Frazetta worked for various comic book companies, including Standard Comics and Magazine Enterprises. In the early 1950s, Frazetta transitioned to doing science fiction and fantasy art, particularly in collaboration with Al Williamson, producing exceptional work for EC Comics. Frazetta’s talent and versatility were further highlighted when he contributed to Al Capp’s “Li’l Abner” strip and worked on movie posters, notably “What’s New Pussycat?” His fame reached new heights with his iconic Conan the Barbarian series of paintings, leading to widespread recognition in the fantasy art genre creating his own characters such as Deth Dealer, who gained him recognition as one of the greatests illustration massters of all times.
