This original cover of “Tank” has been created by Argentine master artist Juan Gimenez as a preliminary colored painting and conceptual base for following publications. This artwork is a tiny treasure of Juan Gimenez’s work, considering this painting is the base of the development of the full process of creation of the story.
Juan Gimenez was an Argentinian-born comic book artist and writer, most recognized for his trademark intricate artwork, evoking mechanical designs.
Always fascinated by drawing, he graduated as an industrial designer and later studied at Barcelona’s Academy of Fine Arts. Though he was sixteen years old when his first story was published, his professional career was spent in advertising until in his 30s he turned drawing comics into his sole occupation.
He’s renowned worldwide for works such as”Estrella Negra”, “Question of Time”, “Trash”, “The Fourth Power”, “City”, and “The Saga of the Meta-barons”, a comic series relating the history of a dynasty of perfect warriors co-developed with author Alejandro Jodorowsky.
His themes revolve around wonderful imaginaries belonging to the fantasy and sci-fi genres. Gimenez’s style became famous for the extreme attention he devoted to technical and historical details.
Gimenez received awards such as “The Yellow Kid” in Italy, the Bulle D’Or in France, and “The best cartoonist” at the “Barcelona International Comic Fair”, among others.
