Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón, “Quino”, was an Argentine cartoonist best known for being the creator of the comic strip Mafalda. He began his training at La Escuela de Bellas Artes in 1949, when he moved to Buenos Aires to begin his career as a cartoonist and humorist.
In 1963 he published his first book “Mundo Quino”, a year later he published Mafalda and began the unstoppable success of the character, which crossed national borders to conquer South America and then spread to Europe, gaining a prominent place in the collective imagination. In 1993, he designed the drawings of the Mafalda character for the Spanish company D.G. Producciones S.A.
Throughout his life, he received multiple awards, among them the Official Order of the Legion of Honor, the most important awarded by the French government to a foreigner, and the Prince of Asturias Award in Spain.
