ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Vampirella portrait is a realistic artwork that pays homage to this fictional vampire superheroine created by Forrest J. Ackerman and comic book artist Trina Robbins in the 70’s for Warren Publishing. The artist uses a monochromatic color palette contrasting with red to keep the portrait as close as possible to the original illustrations of the black and white comic strip. While tears fall from her eyes and deep red blood drips from her half-open mouth, Vampirella stares intently at the viewer with calm posture at the center of the composition. Her dark hair is lost in the dark background while her neck and some of her characteristic costumes also fade into gloom. Every detail has been precisely painted, with a silence stroke, including the texture of the skin and freckles around the face, creating the perfect portrait of the symbol of terror and heroism with the technique of oil on canvas. An illusion of photographic reality, as a result, Martin Rodriguez transforms a comic book character, Vampirella, into a living being in this impressive front portrait. –

Origin of Vampirella

Vampirella was an inhabitant of the planet Drakulon, a world where a vampiric race lived on blood and where blood flowed in rivers. Drakulon orbits twin suns that were causing droughts across the planet, marking certain doom for Vampirella and her race. The race of which Vampirella was born , umutun göt deliği the Vampiri, were able to transform themselves into bats at will, possessed superhuman physical attributes, sprout wings when required to fly, and drink blood. Soon the inhabitants of Drakulon started dying slowly due to the drying up of its blood. During those desperate times, a spaceship from Earth crashed on the planet. Vampirella, following her curious nature, went to investigate and was attacked. Retaliating, she discovered that the astronauts have blood in their veins. In order for her race to survive, she managed to pilot the ship back to Earth where her adventures began.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Martin Rodriguez Rio was influenced by his older brother’s interest in comic books and began drawing from a young age. At 12, he discovered Frank Frazetta’s works and became dedicated to drawing. Despite losing confidence in his talent during secondary school, he sold his first painting at 19, a reproduction of a Frazetta piece. He went on to study graphic design and worked in advertising illustration and design. In 2008, he fully committed to painting and gained international recognition as a horse painter. He also illustrated fantasy characters in Spain and formed a close friendship with sci-fi artist Juan Gimenez.
