This original oil painting by Manuel Sanjulian pays tribute to the iconic Planet of the Apes universe through a dramatic montage reminiscent of classic hand-painted film posters. At the center, the Statue of Liberty provides the composition’s most powerful symbol, surrounded by expressive ape portraits, human figures and fragments of a strange, post-apocalyptic world.

The artist builds the scene through overlapping imagery rather than a conventional narrative space. Warm yellows and earthy browns contrast with the oxidized greens of the statue and the darker treatment of the apes, creating depth while guiding the eye through the composition. The kneeling human figure in the foreground adds a strong emotional focus, reinforcing the atmosphere of isolation and discovery.

Sanjulian’s career has long combined fantasy illustration with his fascination for American cinema, a connection visible in the distinctly cinematic construction of this painting. Signed at the lower right, this unique piece is ideal for collectors of Planet of the Apes, science-fiction imagery and classic movie art.
