Joan Vizcarra turns Alexandre Dumas’ celebrated The Three Musketeers into a humorous encounter with the Disney universe. Mickey Mouse occupies the center of the composition with a particularly determined expression, flanked by an unimpressed Donald Duck and the unmistakably relaxed Goofy. Their matching blue tabards, broad hats and drawn swords immediately transport the characters into the romantic world of seventeenth-century adventure.

The large hand-rendered title above the figures makes the artwork resemble the illustrated cover of an imaginary edition of Dumas’ novel. Earthy ochres and browns establish an antique atmosphere, while areas of intense blue, yellow and red bring the three protagonists forward and preserve their animated vitality.

Signed by the artist, this original artwork plays with the visual codes of literature, historical adventure and classic animation. Its theatrical characterization and instantly recognizable cast make it an especially engaging piece for Disney and entertainment-art collectors.
